PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools

Since 2015 the government has provided additional funding to improve provision of physical education.  This funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. 

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PElessons
  • support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
  • provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

Below is the action plan of how the money shall be spent at Dawley C.E Primary Academy and an update of what has been spent.

Academy Sports Funding

 At the end of the Summer term 2024 of the 34 children in Year 6:
  • 85% (29) could swim a minimum of 5 metres;
  • 62% (21) could swim a minimum 10 metres
  • 29% (10) could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • 68% (23) could use a range of strokes effectively
  • 17% (6) could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situation
